I haven't caught anything with these yet but another idea for a baitfish pattern. Very sparse and easy tie with polar bear and one strand of flashabou on each side of the fly.
Cool. What side of the hook is the barbell eye on? What size hook is it?
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

These looks great. Nice and sparse I bet they'll hammer them.

I would love to, I use a....dark side rod for that. I would love to use a fly rod and bet a jig head would work great tied as a minnow or popsicle type fly. I would love to get all the guys out in the ocean with the pontoons and kayaks for some saltwater fishing. maybe we can hit it up when the weather warms up a bit, not big on the ocean in the winter without a dry suit

The issue with rockfish is that you can only retain 1 on the ECVI and its not a sport fishery as the fish usually die if not returned using a decending device

I think you would be fine as long as they are not too deep. Anything you are going to catch outside of sooke is going to be relatively shallow. When i have pulled rockfish from the deep deep there eyes pop right out of their heads, in and around east sooke park and peddar bay i never think twice about throwing them back.

Have a look at my thread on decending devices, would be a good idea if you are fishing them a lot
I don't often target them unless I have kids on board and it's been a slow day. Most of the time I catch them is by accident and generally in shallower water. I do however come across them when targeting ling, and that device would definitely come in handy there. Are they available in Canada?

We are all looking for that " magic " go to fly ... If anyone has found it... their not telling ... I found the best fly in my box .. is the one that worked that day .. no better way of finding out ,, than getting out there ...
Yes, but I'm new to this and need a starting point 😉

There is no magic fly, that's why fly tying shops do so well. It's important to have a fly you are confident with, and not constantly doubting and wasting time swapping out, pondering fly boxes instead of actually fishing. I have a couple of go-to's and I have shared them. I see no purpose in keeping a coho pattern secret.
