Sorry, I posted this to Stillwater forum by mistake. Not sure it makes a difference, reposting here in Saltwater:
Any pinks showing yet on the north island? I know it's early, but can't wait. Last year was supposed to be the prime year, but it was a bust. The year previous was better.

I have not heard anything yet and was just chatting a guy who works in a fly shop last Friday but that means nothing. I have scouted and false casted every year in July but came up empty handed. There may be a few scattered fish in the coming weeks but nothing worth targeting till August of bet. Hope this year is better than last year, it was the first year I had not landed a pink and had several hooked
We generally start to see pinks anytime after July 8th in the Campbell. Last year, like everywhere else, showed low numbers and very low water. The dilemma this year may be too much water in the CR...good for the fish, but difficult to find places to wade.
I just got back from the Eve River. Nothing showing at this morning's low tide to about half flood (~11:00am). I did manage to land 3 Dollys out of 5 that 'hit'. The first was a 'large' one that gave a great fight. I thought it was a decent sized Pink at first.
At about 9:00am, just after low slack, I landed a nice-sized Pink, then nothing. Except for one other fisherman who hooked and lost what might have been a Pink (too far away), no one else caught anything that I saw.
Overnighted. I fished a bit Saturday evening as the tide was ebbing, but nothing doing. I was going to stay 2 nights, but virtually no Pinks and a generator that wouldn't start meant an early return.

This new job with a week on week off rotation is amazing. Actually feel like to get to enjoy my life for once.
