just got back from the eve. a few in and out of the estuary but nothing too exciting. if your planning a big trip id wait a couple weeks at least. if your just bored and close to the area, it will make for a fun day none the less...
Was at the Eve yesterday and saw a fly guy with 4 pinks. Said it has been slow but that it was the best day yet. I was cleaning campsites with a non-fisher, so no rod time for me.
On the boat today off Kelsey Bay, the good wif and I picked up three pinks in somewhat windy conditions. Don't think this is the peak of the run.
Two years ago, Cluxewe fished well at this time. Got into my share and more everyday for a week. I'm not going back 2 years from now. Word from friend still there, still no pinks yet as of August 8th. Locals say they've never been this late.
I ended up doing some hiking and river fishing. Got into a few nice steelhead on the last day.
2015? You sure? I heard there were fish at the mouth of the Keogh and some at the Eve. Most of the fish I saw at the Cluxewe were holding in the first pool of the estuary. There were a few coho around. Late August, 2014 was nuts! I only fished the C.R. zoo last year.
I was there 2015 and 2016. 2015 Cluxewe fished well, 2016 was a bust, 2017 zero. I wasn't there in 2014, though a friend of mine was. He said the total absence of water in the Cluxewe in 2014 forced the pinks to mill about in the salt, waiting for enough water to get into the river. This lead to an over-abundance of fish along the beach. I've only fished the beach, never the river, though I've seen others fish the river when there's been enough water.
Fished the Eve R. beach in 2015 for 3 days around the August long weekend on rising tides and hooked an abundance of fish two days out of three. Anyone who has seen me cast knows it wasn't my technique, lol. Third day we still got fish, though the laughter wasn't as loud when one slipped the hook.
I love to hear all this history you guys have kept in regards to pink returns. I keep saying I will keep a log but I am always in such a hurry to get home I run out of time. It's usually my fault, just one more cast
Living vicariously. Glad to hear you are getting into fish. Finnish relatives coming to visit so we inhabit an all hands on deck world. Pickled fish, smoked fish and built a horseshoe pit, pits ?
