Has any of you guys been to the tropics after bonefish?
I did my first trip winter and totally fell for it. We went for a pretty tough location in southern Pacific, and were met by some of the biggest bones in the world. These buggers averaged at about 8-10lb and tore hundreds of yards from the reels. They were mostly singles cruising around so we didn't get the numbers but the fish that we did catch sure were great.
I really liked the visual aspect of the flats fishing. Lot of similarities to coho fishing on the beach but the fish take the fly more often than coho. They just spook 95% of the times you cast at them.
Booked 3 trips to the carribean for next winter. 2 weeks in the bahamas and one in cuba. Not seeing an end to this...
Wow, awesome report. I convinced my wife to do a days trip on our Honeymoon 8yrs ago, and the conditions were super tough as the wind was up, guide had a lot of trouble spotting fish and I only had one chance to cast to a fish, which after my first cast got the fly suck in my back, with the second cast I landed the fly line on the Fish's head and never saw him again. The wife did ok sitting in the boat and caught 2 small bones using bait, and still reminds me how she out fished me that day.
