As I've been retaining a fair few trout recently I have noticed that the stomach contents almost always contained plastic and or rubber lures, primarily worms. I did some research and found that there is a high mortality for fish that consume large amounts of these lures. They say the rubber worms will stay in their stomachs for up to 13 weeks and if enough is consumed they will die as they have no room for actual food. I found this article on this exact problem, pretty sad.
Of the few trout I've taken. a couple had faded balls of what I assume was power bait "eggs". It can't be good for the fish, yet they were obviously still trying to eat. Either I got lucky of there is a lot of fish packing that crap.
