I'm wanting to spend some money on a local vacation, fly fishing. I'll need advice and a guide. I don't want a big outfit, just a local experienced fisher who maybe needs some business what with this whole COVID thing going on. Does anyone know of a deserving lodge in the central island area? Or maybe north island? Thanks for any advice.

Hey Jim, I wish I had some more positive feedback on guiding services. Another remember and I took a guided river trip on the island and swore I would never do it again! Not only did we get no fish, for the money, all he did was reassure me that I was doing everything right. Depending when your plans for travel are and what fishery you want to target, I am sure with some research you would be able to get the job done and save a ton of cash. The rivers with this heat will becoming too hot to fish, for the health of the trout in them. Late July you could target pinks off the beach North island and there are also some great lake opportunities also. With this great weather, alpine lakes should be awesome for wild trout fishing. Unfortunately the summer heat takes its toll on the water temps, the lake last night was 68 degrees already and not much action till the sun disappeared. Best of luck, Ed

Most of the island fly fishing guides are currently guiding Saltwater or in other BC locations for the Summer. I would possibly try the Tofino Marina and go out fly fishing with Peter Dyck for Salmon in the Salt.
