Really awesome shots there. That one trout was a big guy. I made it out last week to chase sea runs. I recently got a small speed boat so we have been exploring some beaches up the inlets around here. I have found this one beach and they seem to be there everytime I stop by. Lots of surface action so it was all sight casting. I fished a floating line with a chum baby and it worked really well. Landed 4, had a few other takes. I took some pictures, but cant seem to figure out how to upload. Is it just me or has it finally changed? sorry havent been online here in a while.
Anyways. Rivers are blown so went trouting. Crappy tides. Only a few singles showing. Managed to pick up this beauty. ~ 18". Not a lot of fry about yet.

That's a nice fish Ian, I can hardly wait for the fry to emerge. It's gonna be great to catch a fish againπ Things got a little dry steelheading, not that it's not fun but Cutties are by far my favorite fish
It's been slow. Much like last year, the fry aren't out thick yet. I've only encountered a few small schools, and the fry seemed very small. 1.25" max. As for the trout, no marauding packs, just singles or maybe a loose group of two or three. The few fish I've hooked (mostly lost) were not showing, so I had to cover a lot of beach. Saw one real whopper out there today.
First time I've ever seen a shrimp hatch. Clouds of thousands right up in the wash, especially near small creek outlets. About 5/8" long. No wonder the trout aren't hungry.
A few hot days have turned things on. Fry were getting slaughtered today. This morning, if you could keep the weed of your fly for a couple of strips you'd get a hit. Several fish today, nothing bigger than 14" but lots of fun. It was all over by 7 a.m.. Either the trout were full or the bright sun sent them to the depths.
Lots of trout this morning. Went to four spots and had hit on the first cast at all. Had to weed through a lot of 9-12 inchers to get to better fish. Nothing huge but the best fish of the day was about 15" on a Tom Thumb. Scared up with teeth marks from something (healed). Changed to drys as it seems the little guys cant hit the hook on a big dry or popper.
Lots of action on the poppers this morning. Had two flies snapped off so I skipped the 4x tippet with my last fly and knotted it directly to the heavy butt section. Worked just fine. Funny watching small trout cartwheel over the waking fly while larger fish tried to drown it and eat it!
One first today. Some naked hippy emerged out of the bushes and swam through where I was fishing. This in turn attracted the attention of 1/2 dozen seals. Talk about chilling off a hot fishing spot. Wish we had bull sharks.
